Tiskita Foundation
Conservation comes from real concern and care for the environment and the people where you live. As part of their work at Tiskita Lodge, the Aspinall family has created the Tiskita Foundation that raises funds for the purchasing of lands for reforestation and conservation in the Punta Banco region, while also working on educational and health projects serving the local communities.
Tiskita Jungle Lodge has made the following contributions to Tiskita Foundation and the community:
- The construction of the Punta Banco Health Care Center by donating all the lumber, and providing transport of the materials.
- The installation of an electric generator. Ten years ago there was no public power in the area.
- Oversaw and donated materials for the construction of toilets and showers for the Punta Banco School.
- Donated and transported all the lumber needed for the bridge over the Rio Claro to the Conte-Guaymi Indian Reservation.
- Guests of Tiskita Jungle Lodge periodically send school supplies for the village and the Conte-Guaymi Indian Reservations Schools. These are distributed through the Foundation to over ten schools in the area. Most of these schools can only be reached by foot or on horse. Tiskita Jungle Lodge provides both the man and horse power for the 5 to 6 hours it takes to reach the schools.
- Tiskita Jungle Lodge donated two stays at the Lodge valued at $2650.00. auctioned off in the USA. The money raised was used to buy a portable dental unit for the Health Care Center. The NGO Smiles Forever now is able to come and provide dental hygiene, free of charge, to the people of the area.
- Through its San Jose office, The Tiskita Jungle Lodge has coordinated the donation of toothbrushes and toothpaste for the dental programs of the community.
- The Tiskita Jungle Lodge has donated a plot of 1000 square meters of land for the construction of the Punta Banco Community Center.
- Due to its reforestation and conservation efforts, Tiskita Jungle Lodge is able to supply nearly all of the Punta Banco Village with drinking water.
- The Tiskita Jungle Lodge has donated man-hours, transportation, and materials for the construction of the Punta Banco, La Nicaragua and Rio Claro de Pavones bridges.
- Tiskita Jungle Lodge provides most of the maintenance of the road between Pavones and Punta Banco.
- Tiskita Jungle Lodge donated educational supplies to schools at Vista de Mar, Cocal Amarillo, Rio Claro, Punta Banco, La Hierba, and the schools of La Laguna, Cabeceras de Rio Claro, and Altamira in the Conte-Guaymi Indian Reservation.
- Due to the remoteness of the area, The Tiskita Jungle Lodge provides, free of charge through its office in San Jose, all secretarial services, logistical support and coordination of requests and donations for the Tiskita Foundation.
- In conjunction with the Punta Banco School and the Tiskita Foundation, it supports a monthly Beach Clean Up, providing transportation for the garbage to the dumpsite as there is no municipal garbage collection in the area.
If you wish to make a donation to the Tiskita Foundation, please ask for a copy of the Tiskita Foundation brochure when you arrive or contact us for more information.
